A worker is exposed to 110 dBA for 15 minutes, 100 dBA for 30 minutes, and 90 dBA for 1.5 hours. Table D-2 permits 30 minutes at 110 dBA, 2 hours at 100 dBA, and 8 hours at 90 dBA. Each actual exposure period is divided by its permitted duration, and the results are added together:

(0.25 ÷ 0.5) + (0.5 ÷ 2) + (1.5 ÷ 8) = 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.19 = 0.94

Since the total stays under 1.0, this combined exposure is within permissible limits — but it's close enough that adding even a little more high-decibel time would push it over.
