What performance level would the rule require from AEB systems?

Under NHTSA's proposed heavy-duty AEB rule, systems would need to fully stop the vehicle and completely avoid contact with a lead vehicle across a speed range of approximately 6 mph up to 62 mph. Above that speed, the requirement shifts to significant impact-speed reduction rather than full crash avoidance — the goal being to convert what would have been a severe crash into a less severe one. Should fleets spec AEB on new trucks before the rule is finalized?
